Triad of Trillum Necklaces

Much of my jewelry is inspired by the landscape of the Pacific Northwest interpreted through ancient metalsmithing techniques such as chasing and repousse. These three trillium necklaces are interpretations of the life cycle of the delicate trillium wildflower. This flower comes up early in the spring in the understory of the Oregon forests. It starts as a white flower and as it is fertilized it begins to turn a purple-garnet color and close up.

Sycamore Sisters
In this family, when a child was born a tree was planted to celebrate. These necklaces represent a sycamore tree and locust tree, one for each daughter.

Plumeria Cuff
This cuff was originally made with dogwood blossoms, but re-created with plumeria flowers.

Custom Mother's Necklace
The family tree, interpreted in stone and silver vines. Two children represented by the jasper cut from the same matrix. The vine representing the parent's growing relationship.

Create an adaptation of an exisiting piece like this adaptation of the sapling series using a boulder opal.

In her still lifes, Sarah Sedwick explores the idea of light and color as she recreates everyday objects. Join us for an evening with “Settings & Stills” featured artists and Guild of Eugene Metalsmiths members Tracey Bell, Margaret O’Brien, and Brooke Stone. During this presentation, each artist will talk about her artwork, share her inspiration, and discuss the process and techniques used to create jewelry. Demonstrations will include chasing and repoussé (the process of using hammers and tools to form metal), wax preparation for casting, and chain making.

Celebrate the spring with a tour of whiteaker creativity and art. Studio C will be featuring the spring collection of botanically inspired one of a kind and limited edition sterling silver jewelry created by metalsmith Tracey Bell. Also featured is flamework glass created by artisan Teague Cohen. Both artisans create wearable art with a unique Northwestern feel. This is exemplified by Bell through subject matter as she explores and interprets the flora of the region. While, Cohen a glassworker carries on a tradition of glass work that is endemic to the northwest artisanal movement.
Both artists will be on hand in the studio from 6-9pm Friday April 30th to discuss their creative process as well give studio tours. Studio C is located at 245 Blair Blvd and is open by appointment and for Last Friday Artwalk.

New Custom Work

As the holidays approach I create many personalized treasures in my studio. Here is a sampling of some of my more recent commissions. And remember if you are interested in giving custom jewelry as a gift to start early!

An adaptation of my previously made "Dogwood Cuff" featuring Plumeria Flowers. Created by the processes of Chasing and Repousse', which uses punches and hammers to sculpt forms from flat metal.

One of a kind Mother's Pendant with purple and polar jade. Each leaf represents a parent, each stone a child.

Part of my morpho series, this pair of earrings was created to match a pendant that was given as a gift previously. Asymmetrical and appealing to your inner scientist, they are inspired by microscopic views of amoebas.

First Friday ArtWalk Solo Show

Once again my work will be featured on the Lane Art Council's First Friday Art Walk. This is my second time being a featured stop on the artwalk and to spice things up a bit I am going to give a demonstration of one of the techniques I used to create some of the pieces in the show. The new work I have really focuses on the impermanence of everything, readily illustrated by the change of the seasons and passing natural elements that we exist with on a daily basis.

Three Eugene metalsmiths explore the endless possibilities of texture and how it relates to metal adornment. as much a force for rebirth as for ruin. For as the falling leaves
of autumn decay upon the forest floor, they in turn serve as the
basis for the re-emergence of life in the Spring, in the endless
cycle of the seasons. All things decay and come to an end, but
every end brings the possibility of new beginnings.
